Xerox 5222 Printer Review

The Xerox WorkCentre 5222 is a laser copier that can be configured for multifunction capabilities, tackling the needs of a busy small or medium-sized office. Its output speeds of 22 pages per minute may be a bit underwhelming, but it offers sharp output quality, an internal hard drive, and a wide variety of upgrade options for future expansion. While the price of Xerox 5222 printer toner is a bit high, the estimated yield is impressive, which provides a low cost per page.

In its most basic configuration, the 5222 is equipped only for walk-up copying functions. It can be purchased with network printing included as well, and users then have the option of adding network scanning or even traditional faxing as upgrades. Many buyers will find its network scanning features outweigh the need for faxing, especially given the ability to send scans via email.

Although it takes up a fairly small footprint of floor space, the 5222 isn't exactly a good choice for tight office spaces. It measures 43.8x25.2x25.7 inches, and weighs a heavy 214 pounds with the WorkCentre 5222 toner and other consumables installed. Some optional upgrades like the finishing unit will add to the weight as well. The 40 GB hard drive is a nice touch for saving scanned documents for later printing or sharing.

Toners are easily replaced from the front access panel, but the Xerox 5222 toner cartridges are large enough that it won't be a frequent need. Each WorkCentre 5222 toner cartridge has an estimated yield of 30,000 pages, so the cost per page is also very low. Although compatible Xerox 5222 toner is not widely available, the OEM prices are still quite affordable.

The 5222 would make an excellent starter machine in a small office with expansion and growth on the horizon. Its numerous upgrade options give users a lot of flexibility, but they can benefit from its sharp output quality and solid speeds from day one.
