Xerox 3040 Printer Review
From the company that specializes in large copy machines, the compact Xerox Phaser 3040 laser printer might come as a surprise. This tiny titan can print up to 24 pages per minute, despite a very small footprint, and is perfect for the home or small office. Lack of networking capabilities and somewhat expensive Xerox 3040 printer toner supplies are the only major drawbacks.
Unlike many budget models that are limited to a 600 dpi resolution, the 3040 can reach up to 1200 dpi for sharper prints. This puts it in league with many larger devices, and gears it more toward business users with discerning tastes. A USB 2.0 port is included, but the unit lacks an ethernet network port, so sharing among an office of multiple users is not an option.
The footprint of the 3040 is only 14.1x18 inches, and it is 11.1 inches tall. What is most impressive is that it weighs just 10.1 pounds, even with the Phaser 3040 toner supply installed. Of course, its compact design comes with a few compromises, as the input paper tray can hold only 150 sheets, and the output tray holds only 100 sheets. The control panel is also quite limited, with only one button and a few LEDs to indicate errors or alert users when Xerox 3040 toner is low.
Speaking of toners, replacing the Phaser 3040 toner cartridge can be a little expensive. This is especially problematic, since each Xerox 3040 toner cartridge has a yield of only 1,000 pages. This means a higher cost per page than some of its competition.
It is impressive that the 3040 can offer so much speed and output quality in such a compact footprint, which should make it appeal to home users and those in tight office spaces. Its lack of networking options and expensive supplies could have buyers looking elsewhere, however.
