Xerox PE220 Printer Review
The Xerox Workcentre PE220 laser printer is designed for the small office or home office user. Its small size and ample features will make it a great choice where space is limited.
The Xerox PE220 laser printer uses Xerox toner and features a wide variety of features in a very compact design. The unit features print, scan, copy, and fax capabilities, while still maintaining a small footprint, and weighing only 31 pounds. Although printing and copying can only be done in black and white, scanning and faxing can be done in color as well.
The Phaser PE220 includes a few bonus features worth mentioning. First, the ID Copy feature scans and prints both sides of an ID on one sheet of paper. Usually, this requires copying one side of an ID, and then putting the copy and the original ID back into the copier to accomplish this task. With the ID Copy feature, this can be accomplished quickly and easily, while saving paper as well. Another bonus feature worth mentioning is the Auto Fit Copy feature. With Auto Fit Copy, the scanner will automatically reduce or enlarge the image to fill the printable area of the page. Anyone who has ended up with copies that were too small to read, or were cut off at the edges can appreciate the need for this feature.
Print speed is good, around 20 pages per minute. Print speed always tends to suffer somewhat in a multifunction device, especially when compared to a dedicated laser, but in this case print speeds are still fast enough to satisfy most users and are worth the tradeoff of all the multifunction features included with the device.
Xerox PE220 toner cartridges have give a very good cost per page. In fact, the cost is similar to a black Xerox 6180 toner cartridge, despite it having a much larger capacity. The PE220's standard laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 3,100 pages, but there is no high-yield printer toner cartridge available. Phaser PE220 toner cartridges are easy to access and replace.
Overall, the Xerox Phaser PE220 is an impressive multifunction device with some great added features to sweeten the deal. Print speeds are slower than dedicated printers, but the sheer number of features available and the affordable toner cartridges is more than enough to offset slower speeds.
