Xerox 6605 Printer Review
A wide format laser printer and scanner is not something the average office will need, but for construction plans, schematics, and more, the Xerox 6605 could be an excellent choice. As a low-volume, affordable machine, it can still print around 2.36 inches per second, with up to 2 rollers for paper feeding. It also uses low-cost Xerox 6605 printer toner instead of ink, for more affordable operation.
The unit can connect to an ethernet network, making it available to multiple computers in a shared environment. It also includes a very large 15-inch color touchscreen interface that makes it very easy to use. If users need a little more control than the panel can provide, the included software such as the Document Submit Tool can help manage complex printing jobs and monitor the machine's paper supply and the level of Xerox 6605 toner remotely.
Not only does the 6605 handle printing on media up to 36 inches in width, but it can also do color scanning, at up to 10 inches per second. With a Scan-to-net feature, it can even scan color documents directly to the internet, without the need for a computer to act as the middle man. The main limitation of the scanning function is that the resolution can only reach 600 dpi, but this should be adequate for average use.
Replacing the toners is easier and more cost-effective than a comparable inkjet device. Xerox 6605 toner cartridges have the benefit of a low price and large capacities that keep the cost per page down. Each Xerox 6605 toner cartridge can provide up to 14,300 pages before expiring.
While its purchase price is a little steep, the Xerox 6605 will appeal to buyers who need a solution for large format scanning, copying, and printing. It still comes in lower than much of its competition and savings on operating costs may help it pay for itself over time.
