The Xerox Phaser 6280 color laser printer is designed for the small or medium office environment. Its color printing quality is impressive, but high toner costs make it expensive to operate.
The Xerox 6280 comes in two configurations. The 6280n includes a built-in ethernet networking port, while the 6280dn includes both networking and automatic duplexing, or two-sided printing. Duplexing can be a great option for saving on paper costs, as printing on both sides of each page can reduce paper usage by half. The duplexing option can be enabled as default, ensuring that users always print on both sides unless they specifically choose not to.
The unit has a very fast warmup time, and has a first page out time of 10 seconds or less, meaning less waiting for a print job to begin. It comes with a 250-sheet standard paper tray and a 150-sheet multipurpose tray, and can also be expanded with an additional 550-sheet tray at any time. This gives it a maximum input paper capacity of 950 sheets. With so much expansion, it is a good choice for an office expecting to grow in the future.
Xerox Phaser 6280 toner cartridges are quite a bit more expensive than many competing models. Combined with the relatively small capacity of Xerox 6280 toner cartridges, this results in a high cost per page. Each color laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 2,200 pages, while the high-yield version have a capacity of 5,900 pages each. The black printer toner cartridge has a capacity of 3,000 pages, while the high-yield version has a capacity of 7,000 pages.
Print quality is excellent. Color prints are sharp and detailed, but have a glossier appearance than most models, which can be a bit distracting. Print speed is fast, at up to 26 pages per minute for color and 31 pages per minute for black.
Overall, the Xerox 6280 provides impressive print quality and a lot of expandability, but its high operating costs may nullify its advantages for many buyers.
