Xerox 5890 Printer Review
As the fastest in its series of three models, the Xerox WorkCentre 5890 multifunction laser printer offers the quickest speeds of up to 90 pages per minute, but a massive list price to match. This makes it appealing only to offices with the largest budgets, but even then, the high cost of WorkCentre 5890 printer toner makes competing models look somewhat better on a long term basis.
The standard functions include scanning, printing, and copying, with email capabilities included as well. Most modern offices should find its scanning and digital workflows robust enough to ditch the optional faxing feature in favor of high-quality scans sent by email, shared on a USB device, or on the office network, while saving on the expensive Xerox 5890 toner supplies.
Customization abounds, both in the device's interface and in its upgradeability. The input paper capacity can be expanded up to a maximum of 8,700 sheets, which should be suitable even for gargantuan workloads. Within the touchscreen control panel interface, users can also save their custom workflows, including destinations, so that they only need load their original documents and press a few icons to share them quickly without delving deep into menus.
Even with its great features, it is tough to forgive the costly replacement toners, however. Xerox 5890 toner cartridges are some of the most expensive in its class. Even with a large capacity of 55,000 to 65,000 pages for each WorkCentre 5890 toner cartridges, it is very expensive to run.
Offices that can make good use of the 5890's scanning workflows will find it to be a powerful and expandable device. Buyers who choose it for high-volume printing need to be aware of the high cost of Xerox 5890 toner, and make a lot of room in the office budget.
