Xerox 3428 Printer Review
The Xerox Phaser 3428 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office environment. Its fast speeds and compact size make it a great choice, but users who need color printing will have to look elsewhere.
The Xerox 3428's design is fairly compact, allowing it to fit in all but the tightest spaces in a small office. At 26 pounds, including the Xerox toner cartridge, it is also easy to move around without the need for two or more people. The design is straightforward, if slightly plain. Its input trays are loaded at the bottom of the front side, and output is fed to a tray on the top of the printer. The control panel is simple, but effective, consisting of an LCD screen and a small array of buttons. The menus are easy to navigate, and provide the necessary features, while the software allows easier access to more advanced options.
The 3428 is quite speedy, reaching speeds up to 30 pages per minute. Its first page out time is around 8.5 seconds, due in part to its fast processor of 400 mhz, allowing the printer to process pages quickly and begin printing. All sub-models of the 3428 also come with duplex (two-sided) printing as a standard feature. Duplexing not only allows for more flexibility in printing options, but can reduce paper costs. It is worth noting, however, that duplex printing takes more time, and will cut into the impressive 30 pages per minute speeds of this printer.
Paper capacity is 250 sheets in the main tray and 50 sheets for the bypass, or multipurpose, tray. If this is not enough, an optional 250 sheet tray can be added at any time. Toner cartridges are available in standard capacity and high-capacity versions, with the high-capacity version offering a more economical option.
Overall, the Xerox Phaser 3428 is a well-designed, well-executed laser printer that will perform very well in a small office or home office. Its fast speeds and great print quality stand out, and optional upgrades allow it to grow with the needs of a changing office.
