Xerox 3121 Printer Review

The Xerox Phaser 3121 is a monochrome laser printer designed for personal or small office use. It supports a wide range of media types and has the speed keep up with a busy small office. If a color printer is needed, look to the Xerox 6300 toner printer.

Many users decide to upgrade from an inkjet printer to a laser printer, but the cost of a professional laser printer has always been prohibitive. That is why manufacturers such as Xerox have begun to make compact, affordable personal laser toner printers, designed for a single user or a small office with the focus on inexpensive implementation of laser quality printing.

You won't find a lot of bells and whistles on the Phaser 3121, but what you will find is a quality printer with solid printing speeds and excellent print quality. The printer can churn out prints at 17 pages per minute, and its 600 dpi printing engine produces sharp, detailed prints at excellent quality. The only connections provided are USB and parallel connections, so it can't be networked out of the box. With the use of a print server or a host PC, however, it is possible to share the Phaser 3121 across a network of computers. The printer has the specs and capacity to handle a small office of users, with its 66 mhz processor and 8 MB of memory. It also has an input paper capacity of 250 sheets in its standard tray, enough to keep a small office going without constantly reloading paper. Drivers are available for all modern versions of Windows and modern versions of Linux, but Mac support is not available.

Using the included Toner Save mode will help the office save on toner costs by reducing the amount of toner used per page. Energy Star compliance also ensures low power consumption through the use of efficient power saving modes.

Overall, the Xerox Phaser 3121 is a well-designed personal laser printer that has the muscle to keep up with a small office of users. Lack of an ethernet port makes sharing a little more difficult, and is the only thing holding it back from competing with the HP 1200 toner printer.
