Sharp SF-2040 Printer Review
At almost double the speed of the slowest model in its series, the Sharp SF-2040 laser copier can output up to 40 copies per minute. This makes for a significant upgrade that will be worth the price difference for busy offices. Since the Sharp SF-2040 printer toner uses the same design as several other models, prices are low for the entire lineup.
The SF-2040 has a fairly roomy control panel, making it easy to use, but its frame is also a bit on the bulky side. It measures 24x25x25.5 inches in the base configuration, and weighs a little less than 150 pounds with the Sharp SF-2040 toner supply in place. The basic paper supply includes a 500-sheet main drawer and a 50-sheet bypass tray for alternate media like transparencies. Upgrade trays of several sizes are available, including a 3,000-sheet tray for high-volume use.
The automatic document feeder at the top of the unit is essential for fast copying without the need for manual feeding. A reversing feeder is available as an upgrade for those who want duplex scanning capabilities as well. Other upgrade options include a stapler/sorter, a 20-bin sorter, and more.
When shopping for toners, buyers will be pleasantly surprised at the low cost of Sharp SF-2040 toner cartridges. Even more importantly, Sharp SF-2040 toner cartridges can provide around 15,000 pages each, so the cost per page is well below one cent.
The SF-2040 sits in the middle of its model line, and as such it is a good mix of performance and price. Buyers can get more speed from the higher numbered models, but they may be spending more than they need to if they aren't in a high-volume work environment that requires the fastest speeds available.
