The Sharp MX-M202D improves on the similar MX-M182 model and its main weakness: slow speeds. It is only a bit faster, however, at a maximum of 20 pages per minute, and its first page out time of 7.2 seconds is the same. It also features a little more paper capacity, and the same low cost for Sharp MX-M202D printer toner to make it an affordable choice for small offices on a budget.

As a multifunction laser printer, the MX-M202D can copy, scan, and print, though the base model is limited to USB-only printing. Duplexing is built in, however, and a network expansion kit can equip it for shared office environments. Features like Electronic Sorting and ID Card Copy are included as standard, however, along with a Toner Save mode that helps reduce the use of Sharp MX-M202D toner for each page, requiring less frequent replacement toners.

Paper handling starts out pretty basic, with two 250-sheet main trays and a 100-sheet bypass for a total of 600 sheets. It also includes only a flatbed scanning surface for copies and scans. Upgrading to a reversing single pass feeder allows up to 40 originals to be scanned in a batch, and additional paper trays can expand its capacity all the way up to 1,100 sheets if needed.

Buyers won't find themselves replacing Sharp MX-M202D toner cartridges too frequently, as they each last for around 16,000 pages. Prices are generally affordable, and compatible Sharp MX-M202D toner cartridges are available from third-party sellers at lower prices than OEM supplies.

Although its base model is a bit limited, the Sharp MX-M202D can be a blank canvas for upgrades and expansion options. Duplexing and a solid starting paper capacity make it a good fit for light-duty desktop use as well, even without upgrades.
