Sharp AR-M162 Printer Review
The Sharp AR-M162 packs a big punch for such a small multifunction laser copier, with printing, scanning, and optional faxing, as well as a network expansion kit for sharing. All the while, it is compact enough for a desk surface, and affordable to operate, thanks to inexpensive Sharp AR-M162 toner supplies.
Starting at just 19x24x24 inches, with a weight of 66.2 pounds, the AR-M162 is quite compact, and adding upgrades increases its height, but not its footprint, making it a perfect small office machine. The maximum speed of 16 pages per minute should be just fast enough for personal or small office use and the first page out time of 7.2 seconds is pretty impressive.
The base model includes a flatbed platen for copying and scanning, but an optional upgrade can add a 40-sheet automatic document feeder for faster scanning and copying, or even faxing if the option is included. The main paper tray holds up to 250 sheets, but another 500 sheets are available by adding two more trays. A bypass tray is also included for alternate media, which is very convenient and eliminates the need to empty a tray for things like labels and envelopes.
Saving on printer toner is a major part of this unit's appeal, and toners are easy to replace. The single black Sharp AR-M162 toner cartridge is rated for up to 16,000 pages, so a personal user can go a very long time between replacements. Compatible Sharp AR-M162 toner cartridges are also available for lower than brand name prices to save even more.
The AR-M162 strikes just the right balance of features and price, and makes very few compromises for its compact design. Considering the low cost of Sharp AR-M162 printer toner, it is one of the most affordable models in its class over the long run.
