Sharp AR-162 Printer Review
The Sharp AR-162 multifunction laser copier is definitely on the slow side compared to most in its class. With a maximum speed of only 16 pages per minute, it certainly won't be a good fit for a fast-paced office. However, with a low purchase price, affordable Sharp AR-162 printer toner supplies, and several upgrade options, it could be a good fit for a smaller office.
The AR-162 is pretty compact, especially in its basic configuration, measuring 18.5x23.2x20.9 inches, but it still comes equipped with printing, and scanning capabilities. It does lack a network port, though it can be added as an optional upgrade. USB and parallel ports are included for connecting to a single computer, however. The machine is compatible with both Mac and Windows computers.
Paper handling is a little light for the basic model, with only one main tray that holds 250 sheets and a manual bypass tray that holds up to 100 sheets. Up to two more trays can be added for a maximum of 850 sheets of input capacity, and the maximum monthly duty cycle of 20,000 pages means it can certainly handle larger volumes, even if its speed doesn't particularly support it. Users who find the flatbed scanner too labor-intensive can upgrade to an automatic document feeder.
Buyers who shop based on the price of toners will find that Sharp AR-162 toner cartridges strike a balance between low price and large capacities. Each Sharp AR-162 toner cartridge can provide around 16,000 pages, and compatible Sharp AR-162 toner is available from third-party sellers for lower prices than brand name products.
The AR-162 is a strong contender for smaller offices on a budget, but it doesn't really have the speed or capacity for larger volumes, even with upgrades. Inexpensive supplies and a bit of customization are its most appealing features.
