Sharp AR-151 Printer Review
Small offices often require a laser copier, but don't have much space to spare. The Sharp AR-151 offers just the right solution, as a compact machine with basic copy features and speeds of 15 pages per minute. The cost of Sharp AR-151 printer toner compares extremely well to similar inkjet all-in-one devices, though printing and faxing require optional upgrades.
The AR-151 is a bit larger than models like the AR-122, but it provides a bit more speed and the addition of a multipurpose tray. The biggest improvement, however, is the inclusion of an automatic document feeder for faster scanning. This does make it a bit larger, measuring 11.5x20.4x17.5 inches, but it should still be compact enough to share a desk, and it weighs only 39 pounds, even with the Sharp AR-151 toner cartridges and drum included.
The downside of such a small machine is that the control panel is also fairly compact, and might be a little frustrating to use. Basic operations like zooming from 50-200% are simple enough to accomplish, but making up to 99 copies from an original will require a lot of button pressing, as there is no keypad included.
Buyers expecting pricey replacement toners will be pleasantly surprised. Each Sharp AR-151 toner cartridge has a yield of around 6,500 pages, so even a busy small office won't be replacing them too often. Compatible Sharp AR-151 toner is also available from third-party vendors at lower prices than OEM supplies.
It may not be worth upgrading this model for printing and faxing, compared to a model that already includes these features. For the buyer who needs a compact and affordable laser copier, however, the AR-151 is a very appealing choice. The extra speed and paper handling over previous models will be much appreciated in a busy office.
