Sharp AL-2030 Printer Review
Does your small office or home office need a light-duty laser copier that can also print? The Sharp AL-2030 is a very affordable option, with solid copy speeds of up to 20 pages per minute, while printing is a bit slower at 16 pages per minute. Its main benefits are its compact design and cost-effective Sharp AL-2030 toner supplies, however.
With a light weight of only 37 pounds (even with Sharp AL-2030 printer toner installed) and dimensions of 14.8x17.5x20.4 inches, users might not expect extras like the 50-sheet automatic document feeder, but the smart design manages to include them in a very small frame. This does come with a few minor issues, as users have to open several panels to replace toners, for example, but most buyers will find this worth the tradeoff for such a compact device.
Paper handling is another small tradeoff, with only one 250-sheet main tray included, and a bypass tray that holds 50 sheets as an alternate for using envelopes, labels, transparencies, and more. A USB port is provided for connecting to a PC for printing, but only Windows computers are compatible. Buyers who want networking will need to upgrade to the similar AL-2040CS model.
One might expect supply costs to be high for such a small machine, but in fact, the cost of Sharp AL-2030 toner cartridges is surprisingly low. The high-capacity versions of Sharp AL-2030 toner cartridges provide up to 6,000 pages, for a cost per page that is less than a penny.
The AL-2030 is an excellent choice for printing and copying needs, without the extra cost of other functions or a larger paper capacity. Buyers who fear they might be limited by its capacity or Windows-only connection option might want to consider the similar AL-2040CS model instead.
