Sharp AL-1661CS Printer Review
The Sharp AL-1661CS multifunction laser copier also goes by the model name of AL-1661, but the "CS" highlights its two best features: copying and scanning. With an automatic document feeder and speeds of up to 16 copies per minute, it does an excellent job at these two tasks, and Sharp AL-1661CS printer toner is very affordable, making it a good value. Print speeds and quality are a bit lackluster, however.
The AL-1661CS has a compact design for smaller office spaces, and will be right at home on a desktop surface. With a footprint of 20.4x19.8 inches and a height of only 18.3 inches, it is surprising just how much functionality is included. Even its weight of 45.2 pounds (including Sharp AL-1661CS toner and drum) is impressively light.
The unit also seems designed for quick responses. It requires virtually no warm-up time, and its first copy out time is 9.6 seconds, meaning very little waiting around on the part of the user. It only includes one 250-sheet main tray, with a supplemental 50-sheet bypass tray for alternative media, and reviewers noted that print quality is fairly sub-par, as are print speeds, so buyers who want a fast printer along with the other features might do well to look elsewhere.
Replacement toners are easy to find online and Sharp AL-1661CS toner cartridges have a respectable page yield of up to 6,000 pages, so they go a long time between replacements. Users should be aware that swapping Sharp AL-1661CS toner cartridges does require opening several trays and panels, so they may need to keep the manual handy.
Due to its printing flaws, the AL-1661CS may be a better choice for the office that needs mostly scanning and copying, as well as faxing. It is generally a well-rounded and compact device, however, and a good value for its price.
