Sharp AL-1655CS Printer Review
Small office buyers may want the speed and quality of a multifunction laser copier, but don't have much space the spare. The Sharp AL-1655CS makes a great solution, as it provides printing, scanning, and copying functions in a very compact design, with up to 16 pages per minute speeds. Its retail price is impressively affordable, as are Sharp AL-1655CS toner supplies.
The AL-1655 includes some nice extras like duplex printing and copying, with a 30-sheet automatic document feeder that can greatly speed up copy and scan tasks. Auto and manual exposure settings help to get great results effortlessly. With two input paper trays that hold up to 250 sheets each, and a bypass tray that can hold up to 50 sheets, personal users and even small offices won't have to worry about reloading too frequently.
Despite its great features, the AL-1655CS won't consume a lot of desk space, with a footprint of only 20.4x19.8 inches and a height of 18.5 inches. Its total weight, including the drum and Sharp AL-1655CS toner supply, is just a bit over 50 pounds, so it is fairly easy to set up, even by one individual.
One of the strange design compromises is that toners are a bit complicated to replace, as users must open several trays and panels to get to the Sharp AL-1655CS toner cartridges. The high-capacity versions of Sharp AL-1655CS toner cartridges are worth a bit of work, however, as they supply up to 6,000 pages and have a very low cost per page.
The Sharp AL-1655CS has a surprising amount of capacity and versatility for such a small device, and some extras like ethernet networking that buyers may not expect for such a low price. Lack of Mac and Linux support is a minor drawback, but Windows users will be quite happy with this compact and affordable machine.
