Sharp AL-1540CS Printer Review
The Sharp AL-1540CS upgrades from the AL-1530CS model to include a 30-sheet automatic document feeder, but without the extra paper capacity of the larger model. As a result, it is a good compromise for the price for small offices, while still offering a maximum speed of up to 15 pages per minute, and affordable Sharp AL-1540CS printer toner cartridges keep it under budget.
Unlike the smaller AL-1215 model, the AL-1540 includes both printing and scanning functions, for a more complete multifunction feature set, with the "CS" denoting its copy and scan functions. While some Sharp models were limited to only a parallel port, this unit includes a USB connection as well, making it much more convenient to connect to a modern PC.
The machine itself only weighs 41.9 pounds, even with both the drum and Sharp AL-1540CS toner cartridge installed. It is 15 inches tall, thanks to the ADF, but its footprint is still quite compact at just 19.4x20.4 inches, perfect for a desktop surface. The single 250-sheet paper drawer will be a good fit for individuals, and a small office of a few users will probably be quite happy as well, though larger offices may want to consider upgrading to the AL-1551CS model with a second tray.
When toners need replacing, buyers will appreciate the low prices for Sharp AL-1540CS toner supplies. With a capacity of up to 6,000 pages each, Sharp AL-1540CS toner cartridges are very cost-effective, going a long time between replacements, and a Toner Save mode is available to reduce usage even more.
With several models in its line to choose from, the Sharp AL-1540CS will appeal most to an office large enough to benefit from its ADF, but small enough not to need the extra paper tray. Inside of this niche, it is a very good bargain for the price.
