Sharp AL-1250 Printer Review
For a desktop laser copier, the Sharp AL-1250 is quite impressive, with speeds of up to 12 copies per minute. It lacks some features like duplex copying, but its automatic document feeder and larger paper capacity are upgrades from other models in its class, making it a better fit for the small office. Affordable Sharp AL-1250 printer toner is its best feature, however.
As mentioned, the automatic document feeder is an upgrade from the similar AL-1020 model in its line, able to hold up to 50 sheets at once for fast scanning. It also has double the paper capacity, with two drawers of 250 sheets each instead of one. Manual duplex copying is possible, but requires re-feeding pages into the bypass slot. The output quality of 600 dpi won't be the best choice for photos, but it does an excellent job on text and even occasional graphics.
Because of the addition of the document feeder, the AL-1250 is a bit taller than its counterparts, at 18.3 inches, but its 20.4x18.8-inch footprint is still very well-suited to desktop placement. It is also a bit heavier, at 54.3 pounds, but this includes the drum and Sharp AL-1250 toner cartridges as well.
Speaking of toners, the Sharp AL-1250 toner cartridges provide estimated yields of up to 6,000 pages, so even a busy small office can go a long time before replacing them. The replacement process for Sharp AL-1250 toner is a little awkward, requiring two panels to be open, but it is not difficult.
Single-function devices like the Sharp AL-1250 may be going out of style, but its low price and inexpensive supplies should be very appealing to any small office. Having a dedicated machine for one task can free up other devices, and at such an affordable retail price, it is a great value.
