Sharp AL-1000 Printer Review
At a maximum speed of 10 copies per minute, the Sharp AL-1000 monochrome laser copier isn't built for blazing speed, but its compact desktop design is its main appeal. Despite its small size, it still keeps operating costs low, with affordable Sharp AL-1000 printer toner supplies, and has a decent capacity for personal or small office use.
The design of the AL-1000 caters to small spaces, with a height of just 11.5 inches and a footprint of 20.5x17.5 inches. Its weight of 40.3 pounds should be manageable for setup with a little help. Although the unit can do some basic printing and scanning, it includes only a parallel port for connecting to a computer. A USB adapter is always an option, but many buyers might simply use it only for its copying function.
Another minor drawback is that the AL-1000 is limited to a maximum resolution of only 600 dpi. While this is a little less sharp than some 1200 dpi models it competes with, this will still provides good results for copying, and even for occasional printing. The input paper supply of 250 sheets is a good fit for either personal use or a very small office environment, but more than that and users might find themselves replenishing the paper too often.
Of course, the true value of a laser model is inexpensive toners. Don't let the unit's small frame fool you, as the Sharp AL-1000 toner cartridges will actually last for up to 6,000 pages. Some third-party sellers even have compatible Sharp AL-1000 toner cartridges available at much lower prices than OEM supplies.
The AL-1000 may not have the speeds for a fast-paced office, or the capacity for larger volumes, but it should appeal to the office user who needs a simple copier to tuck into a corner. With its low purchase price and inexpensive Sharp AL-1000 toner supplies, it will likely be much more affordable than most inkjet solutions as well.
