The Savin SP 3500N is a single-function laser printer that provides quick output speeds of up to 30 pages per minute. It also offers high-quality 1200 dpi print quality for sharp images and text, and a fast warm-up time that will save users waiting time in the morning or even throughout the day. High prices for Savin SP 3500N printer toner keep it from being as cost-effective as some of the competition, however.

The SP 3500N is the base model of its series, and includes network printing support with its ethernet port. Users who want automatic duplexing can choose to upgrade to the SP 3510DN model. The unit measures 10.4x14.6x15.4 inches, and it weighs only 25.8 pounds with the Savin SP 3500N toner installed, though the upgraded model weighs a few pounds more.

With a 1200x1200 dpi resolution, images and text will be sharp and detailed; worthy of handing to a client, but the highest quality setting takes its toll on the output speed, so users can choose which the bigger priority is. The input paper capacity is divided between a 250-sheet main tray and a 50-sheet bypass tray, which is just enough to get a small office started. Busy offices can add another 250-sheet tray for extra capacity.

Buyers know that expensive toners can lower the value of an otherwise great model, and the high cost of Savin SP 3500N toner cartridges does just that. The standard supply can provide up to 2,500 pages, while a high-capacity Savin SP 3500N toner cartridge is available to offer up to 6,400 pages. Unfortunately, both are overpriced, making the cost per page too high.

With excellent print quality and a simple design that makes it easy to use, the SP 3500N could have been one of the strongest contenders in its class of small office machines. Sadly, its high operating costs and limited paper capacity make it a poor value in light of more cost-effective competing models.
