Savin SP 1000SF Printer Review
Individuals who used to need a simple printer now often require a lot more from their office machine. The Savin SP 1000SF delivers, as a multifunction laser printer with copying, scanning, and faxing functions. Despite its great features, it is still compact enough for the average small office, while providing print speeds of up to 16 pages per minute, though costly Savin SP 1000SF printer toner could get expensive at higher volumes.
Unlike many consumer inkjets that only offer a flatbed scanner or fax-oriented lasers that only offer a document feeder, the SP 1000SF has both. A 50-sheet automatic document feeder can take care of scanning multi-page documents very quickly, while the flatbed scanner can support a wider variety of media, such as stapled sheets, books, and more. Despite being limited to monochrome printing, it can handle full-color scanning at 600 dpi resolution.
Networking is not supported, but the unit connects to a single computer via USB. A front mounted USB port is also included in the front, for connecting flash drives and other storage media. Users can print from the storage media, or even store scanned documents to it, without a connection to a computer at all. PaperPort software is also included to help manage scanned files and even provide OCR capabilities.
The cost of toners is one of the biggest drawbacks, but there is a tradeoff. The single Savin SP 1000SF toner cartridge also includes a replacement drum unit. This means users won't have to purchase a separate drum, but makes the cost of Savin SP 1000SF toner cartridges higher overall. Even using compatible supplies doesn't reduce costs by much.
The Savin SP 1000SF provides a stunning feature set in a very compact design, which would make it an ideal choice for individuals. High costs for Savin SP 1000SF toner cartridges make it difficult to recommend for all but the most low-volume use.
