Savin AC204 Printer Review
The Savin AC204 was a versatile and compact multifunction laser printer when it was released, but the model is showing its age compared to newer competition. Its high price tag is the first issue, and its print speed of 16 pages per minute could be better as well. The affordable price of Savin AC204 printer toner does make it feasible if users can find it at a low enough initial price.
The AC204 includes both a flatbed scanner and an automatic document feeder, the latter of which can hold up to 30 sheets at once for faster scanning. The control panel lack a touchscreen display buyers might find in newer models, but the interface is generally intuitive, and even includes dedicated buttons for common fax numbers. The fax transmission speed is up to 33.6 Kbps, and up to 320 pages can be stored in memory.
The machine is compact enough for small office spaces, but probably not small enough to fit on a desktop with a PC. It measures 18.1x22x17 inches, and it weighs a fairly heavy 49 pounds, though this does include the Savin AC204 toner supply. The main input paper tray holds 550 sheets, and a 100-sheet bypass tray is available for alternative media types and sizes.
OEM toners can be a bit expensive, but compatible Savin AC204 toner cartridges are available from some third-party sellers at much lower costs. Each Savin AC204 toner cartridge has a large yield of 6,000 pages, which translates to a low cost per page that can save money over the long term.
With a resolution of only 600 dpi and underwhelming print speeds, the AC204 isn't at the top of its class. It also suffers from a high price tag, but buyers who can find a good deal might be able to use it affordably as a dedicated copy and fax machine.
