Savin 2527 Printer Review
The Savin 2527 is a monochrome laser multifunction device that is best suited for large office printing, scanning, copying and faxing. The starting line-up of features is impressive enough, but the 2527 has a bench full of optional features such as an automatic document feeder and finishing unit that set it apart from many machines in the same class. Though the average speed of 27 pages per minute and maximum resolution of only 600 dpi fall a little short of the class standard, it is the Savin 2527's ability to grow that makes it ideal for large work environments with steadily increasing business.
The base model can hold 1,000 sheets of paper, has 32 MB of memory and 6 GB of hard drive space as well as a 200 MHz processor that generates the fast output rate. From an off position, the 2527 can warm up in about 15 seconds and the first page will print out in less than 5 seconds. A USB port is available, but offices most likely will be using the ethernet interface for network sharing.
A little underwhelming compared to other models in this class, a resolution of 600x600 dpi is the highest attainable using Savin 2527 toner. Though most tasks will be completed with quality worthy of a professional atmosphere, the Savin 2527 toner may leave more complex documents a tad grainy. In comparison with other toners on the market, the yield of the Savin 2527 toner cartridges, which is 11,000 pages, is fairly average. Some larger office machines use printer toner designed to last for 30,000 pages.
Some of the most beneficial optional features are the extra paper trays that will expand paper capacity to 3,100, a bonus 32 MB of memory, a complete 1,000-sheet finisher, a 50-sheet automatic document feeder and a bypass tray for printing on alternative media.
More than 40 documents can be scanned per minute at an internal resolution of 600 dpi. Duplex and network scanning is an option, and up to 99 duplicates can be made from one scan. The fax machine offers a number of speed and group dials as well as a 33.6 Kbps transmission speed that will process faxes in as little as 3 seconds.
If a buyer doesn't mind the limitations of 600 dpi printing, or the relatively slow speeds of 27 pages per minute, the Savin 2527 could be an excellent purchase for a medium or large workgroup. The optional upgrades that available as well as its low operating costs make it a good value. Replacement Savin 2527 toner cartridges shouldn't be needed too often, unless your office prints thousands of pages a day, which adds to its value.
