Samsung ML-4550 Printer Review
The Samsung ML-4550 is a compact, versatile monochrome laser printer built with mid-level offices in mind. What is a monochrome unit? Monochrome units are ones that print only in black-in-white, in this case using a single Samsung ML-4550 toner cartridge filled with high quality black printer toner. Able to produce up to 45 pages per minute, it can outrun some of the most popular machines out there all while maintaining resolutions as high as 1200x1200 dpi. With a 500MHz processor and the ability to produce up to 150,000 pages every month, this unit can live up to its expectations. It weighs only 39.3 pounds and surprisingly only takes up a little bit of space with its 15.6x17.8x13.9 inch size.
Only 8.5 seconds is needed for this machine to start up and produce its first page out, and manual and standard duplex printing are both supported. Transparencies, labels, post cards, envelopes and plain paper are all compatible with the Samsung ML-4550 and Windows and Mac operating systems can both work in conjunction with it as well. Media types as small as 3x5 inches and 8.5x14 inches can be printed on, and up to 600 sheets of paper can fit in its input trays. Connection is offered via USB or parallel hookup.
To operate the unit only one black Samsung ML-4550 toner cartridge is needed. This printer toner comes in a standard capacity version that yields 10,000 pages and a high capacity version that yields 20,000 pages. Though the high capacity toners will last you a lot longer and offer a lower cost per page, the upfront price is pretty steep. Overall compared to other similar models, users may find that the price of the replacement Samsung ML-4550 toner is a bit overpriced. Competitive models may be more affordable to maintain, but lack the reliability this machine has.
