Samsung ML-2251 Printer Review
The Samsung ML-2251 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office environment. Its built-in networking and excellent print quality are impressive, but setup could be easier. If color printing is needed, instead consider the Samsung CLP-660 toner printer.
The Samsung ML-2251, also known as the Samsung ML-2251N, has built-in networking with an ethernet port. This allows for connecting it directly to an ethernet network for sharing across a network of computers. Unfortunately, setting it up for networking is not as easy as with some models. The install routine doesn't let users select the ethernet connection as the default, and causes confusion. Selecting no connection will solve the problem, however, and the network connection will work perfectly.
The control panel is a little sparse, with only a Cancel button present. As most users will be initiating all tasks from their individual computer, this won't be much of a problem.
Paper capacity is solid, with 250 sheets in the main drawer and up to 50 sheets in the bypass tray. It is worth noting that the bypass tray extends forward, taking up extra space in the front of the unit, but this will only be a problem in the tightest of spaces.
Samsung ML-2251 toner cartridges are very easy to access and replace. Each Samsung ML-2251 toner cartridge has a capacity of 5,100 pages. Using the printer's toner save mode will result in less toner usage for only a small difference in print quality. This can result in a savings of up to 40% in toner usage.
Print quality is excellent, especially for text. Text remains readable even at small fonts, and is very sharp and dark, even in toner save mode. Print speed is fast, at up to 22 pages per minute, and should be more than fast enough for a small office environment.
Overall, the Samsung ML-2251 makes a great choice for a networked office environment with moderate printing needs. It offers all the essentials at a very affordable price.
