Samsung ML-1710 Printer Review
The Samsung ML-1710 is a monochrome laser toner printer designed for the home or small office user. Its fast speeds and compact size are impressive, but its graphics quality could be better. The ML-1710 is a very compact printer. It measures 11.8 inches by 23.6 inches by 15.8 inches, and weighs 8.8 pounds. It can likely share a desk with a computer in most offices, and is easy to move around. The ML-1710 has a USB port for connecting to a computer, and is extremely easy to set up. It includes drivers for Windows, Mac, or Linux systems. The printer has no network support built in, but it can be connected to a network with a print server or a host computer.
The printer has a single paper tray with a capacity of 250 sheets. The lack of a second tray may be an issue for users who frequently change paper types, as it means having to clear out the tray before loading other paper types.
The ML-1710 also features a Toner Save mode, which reduces the amount of toner used per page. This can result in significant savings and only slightly affects the quality of prints. Samsung ML-1710 toner cartridges have a capacity of 3,000 pages each. Unfortunately, the Samsung ML-1710 toner cartridge included with the printer is a starter cartridge, with a capacity of only 1,000 pages, meaning users will need to replace the Samsung toner cartridge much sooner.
Print quality is generally excellent. Like most toners text quality is sharp and detailed, and even small fonts are very readable. Graphics quality is below average, with some banding in gradients and other issues showing up in some prints. A user who only does occasional graphics printing will find it adequate.
Overall, the Samsung ML-1710 is an excellent toner cartridge based printer for the home or small office, especially where space is tight. Its fast speeds and great text quality are impressive, and subpar graphics quality is only a minor drawback.
