Samsung ML-1630 Printer Review
The Samsung ML-1630 laser printer is designed for the home or small office user. Its sleek look is impressive and different, but users will be paying extra for the look, which is not likely to be a high priority.
The most striking feature of the Samsung ML-1630 is obviously its sleek black design, which is very unique and eye-catching. Its look will probably not appeal to all users, however, and perhaps the biggest problem is that the unit is priced higher than most of its competition, with little more to offer than its design to separate it from the pack. It measures 4.8 inches by 13.1 inches by 14.8 inches, and weighs only 14.1 pounds.
Paper capacity is very small, likely due to the unit's flat design, with only a single 100-sheet drawer available. The output tray has a capacity of only 30 sheets, which could be inconvenient for users who often print long documents. Its 150 mhz processor and 8 MB of RAM should be enough for most home and small office users, but competing units offer more for the same price. It can handle a variety of media, including transparencies, envelopes, labels, and cards.
Samsung ML-1630 toner cartridges are a bit on the small side, with a capacity of 2,100 pages. A small laser toner cartridge results in a higher cost per page. Using a third-party compatible printer toner cartridge will help reduce the Samsung toner cost, but it is still an expensive machine to use.
Print speed is around 16 pages per minute, which is a little slower than the competition. Print quality is generally very good. Text is sharp and dark, but graphics quality could be better.
Overall, the Samsung ML-1630 will appeal to users who value its nice design and don't mind paying extra for it, or trading some performance and paper capacity.
