Samsung ML-1520 Printer Review
The Samsung ML-1520 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office user. It is fast, compact, and affordably-priced, but some users might miss having a multifunction tray. Users who work in tight spaces will be pleased with the ML-1520. It has a small footprint, though it is deeper than it looks at first glance, with a hidden piece of plastic sticking out of its back. For home or small offices with mid-level printing needs, consider the Epson 1100; its Epson S050190 toner will last about 1,000 pages longer than the ML-1520's.
Paper capacity is good for a personal laser, at 250 sheets. One downside to the printer's compact size is that it only has one paper tray. Users who often need to load more than one kind of paper will have to clear the paper tray before adding alternate paper. The ML-1520 does have a single-sheet bypass slot, which is useful for printing the occasional envelope or transparency. The printer can handle a wide variety of media types, including cards, labels, envelopes, and transparencies.
The printer can connect either by parallel port or USB. It has a generous 8 MB of RAM, but the memory can not be upgraded, so what you see is what you get.
Samsung ML-1520 toner cartridges have a capacity of 3,000 pages, and cartridges are easy to replace. While the Samsung ML-1520 toner cartridges are very affordably-priced, users can get more mileage by utilizing the printer's Toner Save feature, which reduces the amount of toner used per page. If this capacity still won't do, though, consider a model that uses Dell 310-7025 toner, which yields 6,000 pages.
Print speed is quite good, at around 14 pages per minute. Text quality is impressive. Its characters are sharp and dark, even at small font sizes. The ML-1250's Toner Save mode reduces print quality very little, making prints only slightly lighter.Graphics are below average,and it doesn't help that black-and-white prints are the only type possible. However, if you want a color printer, consider the Konica Minolta 1600, which features Konica-Minolta A0V30CF toner.
Overall, the Samsung ML-1520 is an excellent personal laser printer. Its compact size and fast speeds are a great combination, and its affordable price makes it a good fit for home or small office use.
