Samsung ML-1430 Printer Review
The Samsung ML-1430 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office user, like the HP 1020 toner printer. Its text quality is excellent, but its graphics quality is lacking. Limited paper capacity keeps it from being any more than a personal printer.
Users with limited space in the office will like the ML-1430's small footprint of 14 inches by 13 inches. Its input and output trays are both located on the top of the unit, so it doesn't need extra depth for loading paper. It does have a second output tray that outputs paper to the front, but many users may not need to use it. The printer can connect by either USB or parallel port. The printer does not do color and therefore if color printing is needed, the Samsung CLP-660 toner printer should be considered.
Paper capacity is very limited, at 150 sheets. This basically precludes using the ML-1430 for multiple users, so it should be thought of as strictly a personal printer. The paper capacity can not be expanded, nor can its initial 8 MB of RAM, though it should also be enough for a single user, especially when printing mostly text.
Samsung ML-1430 toner cartridges have a capacity of 2,500 pages. Unfortunately, the starter cartridge included with the printer has a capacity of only 1,000 pages, so expect to replace it early. The printer has a TonerSave mode which reduces the amount of toner per page, allowing users to get more out of each Samsung ML-1430 toner cartridge with only a small difference in print quality.
Print speed is very good for the price, at 15 pages per minute. Text quality is excellent, with sharp and dark characters that are readable at small font sizes. Graphics quality is good, but photos and graphics tend to be overly dark.
Overall, the Samsung ML-1430 is a solid personal laser printer with excellent text quality and fast speeds. Its compact size makes it a good fit for tight spaces, but its limited paper capacity might be too small for some users.
