Samsung ML-1010 Printer Review
The Samsung ML-1010 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office user. Its text quality is excellent and it is reasonably fast, but its lackluster graphics quality may turn away some buyers.
The most appealing aspect of the ML-1010 might be its very affordable price. Users who work in tight office spaces will also appreciate its compact footprint, which is small enough to share a desk with a computer. Input and output trays are located on the top of the unit, meaning users won't have to leave room in the front for loading paper, either.
The Samsung ML-1010's paper capacity is a little small, like the HP 1020 toner printer, at 150 sheets, but this is certainly a tradeoff for its compact size. Most personal users will find its capacity large enough to suit their needs. The printer can connect to the host computer with either a USB or parallel connection, and it is very easy to set up. In many cases, a driver may not need to be installed, as Windows usually detects the printer and installs the driver automatically. It is still recommended that users install the driver for more functionality, however.
Samsung ML-1010 toner cartridges have a capacity of 2,500 sheets, which can last for a long time for the typical personal laser user. The starter cartridge included with the printer has a capacity of only 1,000 pages. Using the included TonerSave feature will reduce the amount of toner used per page and allow users to get more out of each Samsung ML-1010 toner cartridge.
Print speed is quite good for the price, and should be adequate for most personal users, at around 10 pages per minute. Text quality is excellent, but graphics and photo quality is a little darker than it should be.
Overall, the Samsung ML-1010 is a solid choice for the personal user with limited space. Its affordable price is appealing, and its toner costs are low.
