The Samsung CLX-6200 color laser printer is a multifunction device with print, fax, copy, and scan capabilities. It also includes some interesting features that set it apart slightly from other models.

One such feature is its front-mounted USB port, which allows documents to be printed directly from a USB thumb drive, without the need for a computer. This could be a lifesaving feature when connection problems are preventing a print job from getting to the unit and deadlines are looming. Another use for the front USB port is scanning. The unit allows users to scan documents directly to a USB device without the need for a computer as well. Combined with the 50-page automatic document feeder, this means a user could load 50 pages into the feeder, plug in a thumb drive, and return when the scanning job is complete.

The CLX-6200 is the base model. The CLX-6200ND adds networking and duplexing features. The CLX-6200FX adds additional paper capacity. Each of these features is also available as an upgrade option.

It is worth noting that the Samsung CLX-6200 color laser printer is a very large unit, weighing in at 80 pounds. It is certainly not a model you can place on a desk. Multifunction units tend to have more bulk. It also is concerning that the CLX-6200 does not include an ethernet port, so sharing across a network will require a computer connected to the network. This is a strange omission for a multifunction unit of its size and class. While the thumb drive options may resolve part of this issue, it is still a big consideration for would-be buyers, who will need to opt for the CLX-6200ND instead.

Print speed is fast, at 20 pages per minute, with a first page out time of around 25 seconds. This is not as fast as more expensive models, but fits well with the price range. Samsung CLX-6200 toner cartridges have a capacity of 5,000 pages per color laser toner cartridge, so they won't need to be changed often. Black printer toner cartridges have a slightly larger page yield of 5,500 pages per cartridge. Compared to smaller cartridges, such as Samsung CLP-300 toner cartridges, they are much more efficient, and have a lower cost per page.

Overall, the Samsung CLX-6200 is a full-featured multifunction unit that will perform most necessary tasks in the typical office. The inclusion of the front USB port is a nice touch, but lack of an ethernet port may pose a problem for some buyers.
