Ricoh SP C220 Printer Review

The Ricoh Aficio SP C220 color laser printer has a compact size that is a good fit for smaller office spaces, and is compatible with both PCs and Macs. Its speed of 16 pages per minute is disappointing, however, and replacement Aficio SP C220 printer toner is very expensive.

The SP C220 comes in two variations. The SP C220n is the base model with networking features, while the SP C220s also includes extra paper capacity. Of course, the base model can also be upgraded for additional paper capacity, so there is room for growth. In addition to the ethernet port for networking, the machine also includes a USB 2.0 port for direction connection to a computer.

The unit is quite well suited to small spaces, with a frame that measures just 12.8x16x18 inches, and weighs 50.7 pounds with the Ricoh SP C220 toner supplies in place. The output quality is quite sharp, with a maximum resolution of 2400x600 dpi, but several models in its class offer a higher resolution for only a bit more in price, so buyers will have to decide how much to prioritize this aspect. Since it is compatible with both Windows and Mac computers, it is a good choice for cross-platform office environments.

With four separate toners to replace, the cost of Ricoh SP C220 toner cartridges can be a lot to handle. Even with each color offering up to 2,000 pages of output, expensive prices keep the cost per page for Aficio SP C220 toner cartridge high.

Like so many laser models with color output before it, the Ricoh SP C220 is just a bit too expensive to operate. Its speed and output quality are just good enough to make it a worthy contender for a small office, but the Ricoh SP C220 toner impact on small budgets will probably turn out to be too great.
