Okidata C8800 Printer Review

The Okidata C8800 color laser printer is designed for the medium or large office environment. It features fast, high-quality printing at sizes up to A3, and toner costs are very reasonable, making it a very economical color printing solution. The Oki C8800 color laser printer is particularly well-suited to production environments, where the highest-quality color printing is needed. Its "high-resolution" color printing technology allows for very sharp prints, even at large sizes such as A3.

The unit comes in three configurations. The C8800n is the base model, with built-in networking, the C8800dn adds automatic duplexing, or two-sided printing, and the C8800cdtn adds extra paper capacity, which makes for a taller unit. Standard paper capacity is 400 sheets, divided between a 300-sheet main drawer and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. The additional 530-sheet paper tray is included with the C8800cdtn, or available as an upgrade option for the other models. This is particularly appealing for the small office that expects to grow in the future, as it can purchase the base model and expand later.

The unit's powerful 500 mhz processor and 256 MB of RAM can handle graphics-intensive printing. The memory can also be expanded to a maximum of 768 MB if needed.

Oki C8800 toner cartridges come in the configuration of three color cartridges and one black cartridge, similar to the Okidata C5500 toner printer. Each color laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 6,100 pages, and the single black printer toner cartridge also has a capacity of 6,100 pages. Toner costs are very affordable.

Print speed is impressive, at up to 26 pages per minute for color, and 32 pages per minute for black. Print quality is excellent across the board. Photo and graphics quality meets or exceeds that of dedicated photo printers, and text is sharp.

Overall, the Oki C8800 has an impressive combination of high print quality, speed, and large format printing.
