Okidata C331dn Printer Review

The Okidata C331 is also referred to as the C331dn for its duplexing and networking capabilities. It is one of the smallest color laser printers on the market, but still offers pretty solid performance, at around 23 pages per minute for color and 25 pages per minute for black. Multiple capacities of Oki C331dn printer toner supplies make it easy to control costs.

Given the unit's capabilities, it is impressively compact. It measures only 9.5 inches tall, with a footprint of just 16.1x19.8 inches, rivaling the size of some monochrome devices. It is a little heavy, at 48.5 pounds, but this does include the Okidata C331dn toner supplies. Users can connect via ethernet for network sharing, or via USB for a single PC setup. Both Windows and Mac operating systems are supported.

The C331dn is no slouch when it comes to output quality, with a maximum printing resolution of 1200x600 dpi. Reviewers were impressed with the text and graphics quality, but a little underwhelmed by photos. The initial paper capacity includes a 250-sheet main tray and a 100-sheet bypass tray. With an optional upgrade tray, users can boost it to a maximum of 880 sheets.

Although the starter toners included in the box offer only 1,000 pages of output, the standard Okidata C331dn toner cartridges can provide 3,000 pages for each color and 3,500 pages for black. The high capacity versions of Oki C331dn toner cartridges provide up to 5,000 pages each, for a much lower cost per page.

It may not be the fastest in its class, or offer the highest quality output, but it is hard to ignore the low price tag and solid performance of the Okidata C331dn. Its compact design is perhaps its most impressive trait, but still leaves some room for expansion as well.
