Multipurpose laser units come in all shapes and sizes and are designed to fit the requirements of offices ranging from home to large industry. The Okidata B4520 is equipped to handle mid-volume daily needs including printing, scanning, copying and faxing. If used in a heavy duty office with tons of employees using it as a shared unit, the B4520 will fall short. This machine may also be too much for a small or home office, making the target audience a mid-sized work environment.

The fax machine has a 33.6 Kbps transmission speed and a 500-page memory. There are 10 speed dial locations for frequent contacts and a fax will be processed in about 2 seconds. The scanner uses a 48-bit color depth to create an internal resolution of 9600x9600 dpi. The 50-sheet automatic document feeder allows for continuous scanning and up to 99 duplicates can be made per order. Users can resize the images and still create a resolution of 600 dpi using the Okidata B4520 toner.

This is a monochromatic laser machine, so only black printer toner is needed and it is held in a single Okidata B4520 toner cartridge. When it comes to the average page yield, about 6,000 prints can be generated from each Oki B4520 toner cartridge, which will ultimately provide a minimal cost per page. Up to 20 pages can be printed every minute with a maximum Okidata B4520 toner resolution of 600x600 dpi. Though this is not the best quality from laser printers on the market, it will create sufficient documents.

There is a 64 MB memory, a 92 MHz processor and a monthly duty cycle of 12,500 pages. The LCD shows an alert when Oki B4520 toner is running low and the paper capacity is broken down into a 250-sheet input tray, a 100-sheet output tray, a single-sheet bypass tray and an additional tray that can hold another 550 sheets.
