Okidata B4250 Printer Review

The Okidata B4250 laser printer is designed for the home or small office user. Its text quality is excellent, and its speed is reasonably fast for the price, but users who need more than a basic laser text printer may wish to look elsewhere, like the Oki C5100 toner printer.

The Oki B4250 laser printer is very compact, making it perfect for tight office spaces. The unit measures 7.9 inches by 14 inches by 15.6 inches (HWD) and weighs 22 pounds, which is very light when compared to similar size units like the Okidata C5500 toner printer. It connects via USB or parallel port, but does not have built-in networking support. This relegates it to personal printer status, though it could be shared with the use of a print server or a host computer.

Paper capacity is 250 sheets in its single tray. Its paper capacity is quite large, but it would have been nice to have a multipurpose tray as well, for alternate media types. It supports paper sizes up to 8.5 by 14 inches. Installed memory is 16 MB, but can be expanded to a maximum of 272 MB. The unit has a 266 mhz processor, allowing it to handle its own processing without relying on the host computer.

Okidata B4250 toner cartridges have a capacity of 2,500 pages for each laser toner cartridge. Users can get more from each printer toner cartridge by using the toner save mode, which reduces the amount of toner used for each page. This makes it a more economical choice.

Print speed is good for the price, at around 23 pages per minute. Text quality is excellent, with sharp and detailed characters that are very readable even at small font sizes. Graphics quality is below average, however, so users who do a lot of graphics printing may be disappointed.

Overall, the Oki B4250 is a very basic, compact, and affordable unit that does its job well. Graphics quality is its only major problem, though high-yield toner cartridges would have been nice as well.
