It is very compact and has decent printing speeds, at up to 8 pages per minute for black and 4 pages per minute for color. Its 1200 by 1200 dpi printing resolution can produce sharp prints. Lexmark Z82 ink is pricey, however.

Given the number of features included, the machine is surprisingly compact. It measures 10.2 by 14.5 by 17.5 inches, and it weighs 17.2 pounds. The amount of functionality crammed into a small design is impressive. The Lexmark Z82 ink cartridges are easy to find in stores and easy to replace. The high cost of replacement Lexmark Z82 ink cartridges, however, is the main drawback of this model. It is a very expensive machine in the long run due to printer ink, despite its low upfront price.

The Lexmark Z82 can print, scan and copy, and does each feature quite well for the price. There is a flatbed scanning surface that can scan or copy paper sizes up to 8.5 by 11 inches, but there is no automatic document feeder, which could be a negative for those who often scan multiple pages at once. Scanning resolution is limited to 600 dpi, which is enough for good quality copies. Many competing models offer resolutions of 2400 dpi and up.

In their review of the multifunction inkjet unit, ComputerWriter.com praised its low price and its multiple functions. They found its software to be difficult to install, and its scanner's quality to be disappointing.

Overall, buyers who need a basic multifunction printer may find a lot to like, but the high cost of Lexmark Z82 ink makes it a very expensive printer to operate over the long run.
