The Lexmark Z815 is designed for home users wanting to print photography projects. It is an affordable printer, and its print speeds are quite good, at up to 20 pages per minute for black and 14 pages per minute for color. The cost of Lexmark Z815 ink is not too expensive, but the extra cartridges might be an added expense for some.

Included in the box is a tricolor inkjet cartridge. While it can print in both color and composite black, most users will want to add separate black Lexmark Z815 ink cartridges. Many may want to add the additional photo cartridges for better quality photography. Only one of these Lexmark Z815 ink cartridges can be installed at a time, so buyers will have to switch them each usage. This represents extra cost and hassle that consumers don't have with most inkjet printers.

The Lexmark Z815 measures at 6 inches by 17.3 inches by 9 inches making it small and easy to fit in most tight spaces. Both Windows and Mac platforms are supported by this compact unit, and the included software does an excellent job of helping users create and print photo projects. A wide variety of media types are supported, such as card stock, envelopes, glossy paper, labels and more. A long list of media sizes are supported, and borderless photo printing is supported on most common sizes.

In their review of the Lexmark Z815 inkjet, PC Pro praised its affordable price and compact size and even called it the best photo printer from Lexmark yet. Unfortunately, they found its quality to be below that of competing models and found several printing problems, such slow drying ink.

Overall, the Lexmark Z815 might be a good choice for photo-centric buyers on a tight budget, but its quality is not the best in its class. Plus, ink prices are high.
