The input paper tray can hold up to 100 sheets, which should be enough for all but the most demanding home users, and most small office users. It connects via USB cable, but no cable is included in the box, so some buyers will need to purchase a separate USB cable before they can use the product. While this is generally common practice for budget printers, many feel tricked by this unexpected expense. It also tends to be a little larger than most in its class, measuring 11.1 by 13.1 by 19, so those with tight spaces to work with should measure before purchasing.

Compared to similar models in its class, the Lexmark Z54 inkjet unit tends to be less expensive upfront, though the high cost of Lexmark Z54 ink counters this upfront savings in the long run. For a little more money, buyers can get faster speeds and better quality and lower printer ink costs.

Overall, the Lexmark Z54 is a solid well-designed machine, but the high cost of ownership will likely turn away most.
