Home users looking for an affordably-priced color inkjet printer will probably come across the Lexmark Z52. It offers solid print quality and decent speeds, at up to 15 pages per minute for black and 7 pages per minute for color. Its printing speeds will be slower than others, and Lexmark Z52 ink is very expensive, making its affordable price less appealing at a second glance.

While not the most compact model in its class, the unit measures 19.5 by 11.3 by 14.7 inches, which should be small enough for most home or small office users. It weighs only 13 pounds, so it should be easy to move without enlisting the help of a second person. There are two Lexmark Z52 ink cartridges included in the box: a black cartridge and a color cartridge. There is an optional photo cartridge that can be purchased separately for better photo quality. The Lexmark Z52 ink cartridges are very easy to replace, but the combined color cartridge means buyers might be wasting printer ink when one color runs out before the others.

Maximum printing resolution is 2400 by 1200 dpi for extra sharp prints, and a wide variety of media types are supported, such as photo paper, plain paper, banners, labels, envelopes and transparencies. The included software is easy to install and includes support for both PC and Mac platforms. The software also includes project software for helping users create interesting photography projects easily.

PC Magazine's review of the inkjet printer was mixed. While they liked its low price and fast speeds, they disliked the high cost of Lexmark Z52 ink. Taking into account the total cost of ownership, they found it to be the most expensive model in its class.

Overall, the Lexmark Z52 is a very capable product with good software, but printer ink costs are much higher than competing models, making it a difficult printer to recommend.
