The Lexmark Z1420 is a color inkjet printer designed for the home or small office. It has built-in wireless printing capabilities, and its print speed is fast, at up to 24 pages per minute for black and 18 pages per minute for color, which is faster than competing ink, such as Brother LC61M ink. There is a strong focus on photo printing, but the high cost of Lexmark Z1420 ink may be a problem for those who do a lot of printing.

The printer is very compact, especially when its input and output paper trays are folded over and pushed in. It measures 4.8 inches by 18.1 inches by 7.8 inches, and it weighs only 5.7 pounds. It is a good fit for small office spaces or college dorm rooms. Lexmark Z1420 ink cartridges are a bit on the expensive side, and users will find that it requires multiple Lexmark Z1420 ink cartridges to get the best prints, much like a printer that uses Canon CLI-8C ink. There is a photo cartridge for the best photo quality and an additional black cartridge for printing in true black printer ink. This adds up to an expensive cost of ownership.
