When the office is in need of equipment to handle the growing business, the Lexmark X548 will be a good addition because of its ability to serve the purpose of four machines. Though it is marketed as a laser printer, the X548 can also send and receive faxes, make copies and scan documents in black-and-white or color. This unit weighs approximately 60 pounds and has a robust frame that may not fit on a standard desktop but will still save space in a work environment.

The copying function has a fast production rate of 25 copies per minute and it has resizing options that give users the ability to increase or decrease the image from 25% to 400% of its original size. The scanner is a flatbed surface that has its own automatic document feeder for multi-page documents. It can scan about 18 pages per minute at 300 dpi for black-and-white documents and 600 dpi in color. When faxing, the transmission speed of 33.6 kbps allows users to send or receive pages in as little as 3 seconds.

Because this multi-purpose machine has color capabilities, there are four toners that are used for operation. Though Lexmark X548 toner cartridges are supplied by the manufacturer upon purchase, replacements will eventually be needed. There are two capacities of printer toner available to users from Lexmark or certified third party vendors. The standard-capacity Lexmark X548 toner cartridges can print 1,000 pages before expiring while the high-capacity versions will produce up to 2,000 prints.

The connection options are USB port and ethernet interface, which allows networking. The built-in memory is 512 MB, but that can be expanded to 1536 MB if needed. The paper capacity can also be increased with the addition of more paper trays. The 900 MHz CPU provides a 25 page per minute output rate while the Lexmark X548 toner produces a professional-quality resolution of 1200x1200 dpi.
