Wireless printing, copying and scanning capability are features of the Lexmark X4690. This is a low-cost alternative for the home office. The Lexmark X4690 ink has a maximum published printing speed rated at 25 pages a minute for black and white and 18 pages per minute for color. Dimensions are a fairly compact 6.98 x 18.07 x 13.03 in. Not bad for a multifunction device.

Maximum resolution is 4800x1200 dpi color and 1200x1200 dpi for black and white. Rated duty cycle is 3000 pages per month maximum. Supported media includes card stock, envelopes, plain and photo paper, matte paper, iron-on transfers and labels. Lexmark X4690 ink cartridges print in four colors including cyan, magenta, yellow and black. A color photo printing cartridge is also available. Lexmark X4690 inkjet cartridges are also capable of borderless printing on 4x6", 5x7", A4, A5 and 3.5x5".

Connection is through high-speed USB type B and network-ready ethernet. Also supports USB pass-through via a PictBridge port. Compatible with PC and Mac, including Windows XP, Vista, 2000 and Mac OSX 10.4 . The X4690 is also compatible with several forms of digital media memory card including Compact Flash, Sony Memory Stick, SD card, Mini Secure Digital, xD card and Micro Secure Digital, in addition to others.

The Lexmark X4690 inkjet is a thermal printer with built-in wireless printing capabilities. It includes PrecisionSense? technology, which automatically detects the media type to set resolution. Automatic print cartridge alignment is another feature. Printing can be accomplished directly from digital memory cards. OCR software included for scanning. The printer includes a 100-sheet capacity input tray.

Except for faxing capability, the X4690 is a complete package for a bargain price. Users like the included software, quick set-up and printing quality. Some complain about the color printing speed, but this is a minor inconvenience in the greater scheme of things.
