The Lexmark X3470 is a multifunction inkjet printer designed with the home or small office user in mind. It offers print, scan and copy functions for a surprisingly low price. Print speeds are fast, at around 17 pages per minute for both black and color. Lexmark X3470 ink is fairly affordable, but the printer ink runs out fast. Higher yielding ink, such as HP 60 Black ink, will last longer.

The machine connects via USB cable, though a cable is not included in the box. There is also a PictBridge port for connecting digital cameras directly to the unit and memory card slots. Since the printer doesn't have a large LCD screen, however, there is no way to preview photos for printing directly from a camera or memory card, so this must be done in the included software. Copies can be reduced and enlarged from 25% to 400%, and copy speed is around 12 copies per minute.

Despite the low price of the printer, the cost of Lexmark X3470 ink cartridges may be an issue. Although the printer ink cost is reasonable, it tends to use ink quickly, requiring frequent replacements. The Lexmark X3470 ink cartridge included with the machine is a single color cartridge. The Lexmark X3470 ink cartridge has a capacity of only 190 pages. Brother LC51M ink lasts up to 400 pages.

User reviews of the Lexmark X3470 are mixed. Some users praise the wide array of features and functions offered for the price, and the fact that it can operate on a single color cartridge. Many users complain about having to replace cartridges often, however, and its high cost per page. Look at a printer featuring Canon CLI-36 inkfor more economical printing.

Overall, the Lexmark X3470 is a well-designed multifunction inkjet with great features at a very low price, but its high cost per page makes it an expensive choice in the long run.
