Lexmark W850 Printer Review
There are a lot of monochrome laser printers out there on the market, but there are few made for mid-level outputs that can create blazing speeds of 50 pages per minute like the Lexmark W850. Not only can it produce some impressive speeds, but it can reach resolutions as high as 1200x1200 dpi using its needed Lexmark W850 toner. It even prints its first page out at only 6 seconds, and it comes with expandable memory—standard at 256 MB that can be expanded to 1280 MB. Most business printers this size won't have specifications that impressive, and if they do, they certainly won't have the durability to print out 300,000 pages a month like the Lexmark W850 can.
For operation, only one Lexmark W850 toner cartridge will need to be maintained, which will make owning the machine quite simple. This printer toner will last 35,000 pages before expiring. Though these Lexmark toners may certainly seem a bit expensive, their long lasting ability will give them a low cost per page. The high capacity of the Lexmark W850 toner cartridges will also decrease the amount of times you will need to replace the cartridges, in comparison to other models out there.
All sorts of media types are supported, like cardstock, plain paper, labels, envelopes and transparencies, meaning no matter how versatile the needs of the office are, this unit should have them covered. It is even compatible with many different operating systems, like Mac, Windows, Novell and Linux. A 100.5 pound weight will make it a little difficult to lift, but its compact size of 20.0x25.25x30.3 inches will make it an easy fit.
There are a couple downsides to the unit. First of all, the Lexmark W850 is not Energy Star Compliant. Features like duplex printing and networking are not built in, though compatible models like the Lexmark W850D and W850N will offer those features, respectively.
