Lexmark T620 Printer Review
The Lexmark Optra T620 laser printer is designed for the small or medium office environment. It offers a good balance of features, speed, capacity, and an affordable price that make it a great choice for almost any office. If the office is small and doesn't need multiple features or thousands of prints each month, this machine will be far too much. Something like the Epson C1100 that uses Epson S050190 toner would be a much better choice.
The Optra T620 laser printer measures 17.9 inches by 16.5 inches by 23.4 inches and weighs 70 pounds, so it is not a printer for tight office spaces. Included in its bulky frame is a fast printing engine and 600-sheet paper capacity, however, making for a good tradeoff. Paper capacity can be expanded to a maximum of 4,100 sheets, allowing the unit to fit the needs of a growing office both now and in the future.
Multiple configurations are available. The T620 is the base model, the T620n adds built-in networking support, and the T620dn adds both networking and automatic duplexing, or two-sided printing. The T620in adds internet fax and networking. These are convenient features that add a lot of functionality. Both networking and duplexing are available as upgrades at any time, but buying them pre-configured is much less expensive. The unit's 32 MB of memory can also be upgraded to a maximum of 382 MB if necessary, especially when sharing among many users. Print speed is 30 pages per minute.
High-yield Lexmark T620 toner cartridges are available, with a capacity of 30,000 pages for each laser toner cartridge. The printer toner cartridge is easy to access via a front panel and easy to replace. For a couple thousand more pages per printer toner, take a look at a similar Lexmark printer that features higher-yielding Lexmark 12A7465 toner.
Print quality is a highlight of the unit, as it produces sharp, clean text that is readable at small font sizes. Graphics and photo quality is better than average, but suffers some of the choppiness and uneven gradients that most lasers experience. Those who want color graphics are out of luck with the T62, but should consider the Cannon C2550 which uses color Canon 0454B003AA toner.
Overall, the Lexmark T620 makes an excellent choice for an office expecting to grow, due to its many expansion and upgrade options. Fast speeds, excellent text quality, and an affordable price are all impressive.
