The Lexmark P706 is an average inkjet printer. There are no real stand-out features or extra functions that would set it apart from the standard printer found in homes or small offices. It was designed to handle low-volume print jobs and produce high quality text documents and photos. There are only 2 Lexmark P706 ink cartridges. One is filled with cyan, magenta and yellow printer ink, while the other has only black.

The maximum paper capacity is 100 sheets of regular paper. However, the machine can print on various media types such as envelopes, iron-on transfers, labels and photo paper. The Lexmark P706 ink can create a resolution of 2400x1200 dpi when printing on most paper types, but it can hit 4800x1200 dpi when using the photo paper. This will make for close to lab-quality pictures.

The type of operating system that is used will determine the speed of the processor. When using a Mac, the G3 300 MHx CPU will control the pace of operation. If using Windows, however, only 233 MHz is possible. The memory ranges from 64 to 126 MB and connection to the computer can be made only by using a USB 2.0 port and cable. Unfortunately, the P706 is just a basic model so it lacks networking and wireless capabilities.

Using only the black Lexmark P706 ink, up to 17 pages per minute can be printed. However, when printing in color, the fastest speed is 10 pages per minute. Replacement printer ink is available directly from the manufacturer or from third party vendors online. These suppliers sometimes rebuild once-used tanks and refill them. These are referred to as remanufactured Lexmark P706 ink cartridges and have the same quality and capacity as OEM versions. Overall, the P706 is affordable to purchase and maintain and will provide reliable production for years.
