The Lexmark MS812dn is part of a series of laser printers that provide fast speeds of up to 70 pages per minute, multiple configurations with different feature sets, and upgradeability for future expansion. The "Unison" Lexmark MS812dn printer toner offers consistent quality, but can be a little on the expensive side.

The MS812 series includes the MS812dn model with duplexing and networking, and the MS812de model with a larger 7 inch display that makes it easier to navigate. The MS812dn comes with a 2.4 inch color display, however, which is quite readable. The control panel configuration is simple enough for novices to use, and a front-mounted USB port lets users plug in a flash drive or other storage media for direct printing.

The MS812dn has a wide variety of upgrades available to expand its capabilities. The initial paper capacity includes a 550-sheet input tray and a 100-sheet multipurpose feeder. Additional trays can be added for up to 4,400 pages of input, however. The initial 256 MB of memory can be expanded to over 2 GB to handle larger documents more quickly, and many finishing options are available as optional add-on units, handling tasks like stapling and sorting without the need for user intervention.

The main downside of the MS812dn is the cost of replacement toners, as the Lexmark MS812dn toner cartridges have a fairly high price tag. With a yield of only 6,000 pages, this gives Lexmark MS812dn toner cartridges a higher cost per page than some of its competition, making it more expensive over the long run.
