Lexmark E240 Printer Review
The Lexmark E240 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office user. Its fast speeds and compact design make it an excellent choice for cramped spaces. Its generous paper capacity and solid memory capacity are bonuses.
While the E240 is taller than many laser printers in its class, its footprint is small enough to fit into fairly tight office spaces. The printer measures 14 inches by 18.1 inches by 16.7 inches (HWD) and weighs 22 pounds. What you get for some of the extra bulk is a higher paper capacity than most compact printers. The Lexmark E240 holds 250 sheets in its single drawer. It also has a single sheet bypass tray. A 550-sheet drawer can be added as an optional upgrade as well, giving the Lexmark E240 some room to grow.
The printer has a 366 mhz processor and 16 MB of RAM, so it can handle a fairly high volume of printing without slowdowns. Memory can be upgraded to a maximum of 80 MB if necessary. Its monthly duty cycle of 10,000 pages means it can also handle a small office of networked users, though it doesn't have a built-in network interface.
The Lexmark E240 toner cartridge has a capacity of 2,600 pages, though a high-yield cartridge is also available, with a capacity of 6,000 pages. Users can get even more out of each Lexmark E240 toner cartridge by utilizing the printer's toner save mode, which reduces the amount of laser toner per page, with only a small difference in print quality.
Print speed is very impressive for the price, at up to 27 pages per minute. Print quality is excellent, with sharp and detailed text and decent graphics quality. The printer's 2400 dpi (interpolated) printing engine really makes for sharper prints.
The Lexmark E240 is an excellent choice for the home or small office user, but midsized office users will find that this machine will not suffice. Overall, though, the E240's fast speeds and affordable price make it one of the best printers in its class.
