The Lanier SP 4310N is a monochrome laser printer with a versatile, modular design that can be tailored to both small and medium-sized offices alike. It features quick performance, at a maximum of 37 pages per minute, and the base model is quite compact, which is great for tight spaces. The high cost of Lanier SP 4310N printer toner is difficult to look past, however.

The SP 4310 base model is an easy fit on most desktop surfaces, measuring 13.6x15.3x17.7 inches, and it weighs only 34.1 pounds, even with the Lanier SP 4310N toner supply inserted. Warm-up time is around 19 seconds or less, and it can warm up from Energy Saver mode in 12 seconds or less. The first page of a new job can finish printing in 6.9 seconds or less.

The main paper tray is equipped to hold around 500 sheets, while a second bypass tray folds out and can hold up to 100 sheets. This is particularly useful for alternative media, as it can be used without the need to empty the main tray first. Users can also upgrade the paper capacity further to a maximum of 1,600 sheets. Supported media can be a minimum of 5.5x5.5 inches and a maximum of 8.5x14 inches.

The unit needs only a single Lanier SP 4310N toner cartridge which is easy to install, but replacement toners are expensive. The cost per page remains high in spite of an estimated yield of 15,000 pages from each Lanier SP 4310N toner cartridge.

There is a lot to like about the SP 4310N, including its network-ready design, its compact frame, and solid output speeds. It also has a decent amount of expandability for such an affordable machine, but the high cost of supplies will leave many buyers disappointed and possibly over budget as well.
